My way of Detox

Aloha! I have a skin allergy and usually wear only cotton clothes, but today I got my first Dri-Fit t-shirt; it says, “WE RUN MUM.” I like the design from the moment I saw it, as I like both, Mumbai where I live and jogging.

"We run Mum" ~Healing Readings with NalikolehuaThe skin allergy, atopy, occurs when toxins come out of your body through the skin; detox—through the normal excretory system—is the key to not develop atopy. I clean tongue every morning and pay attention to what I eat and the amount of water I drink to prevent constipation. I give myself stomach massage too.

But, I hardly sweat, which is, unfortunately, typical for an atopy patient’s metabolism.

Sweat is great because it releases tensions and relaxes your body. It also removes accumulated salt from your body. A little salt is good for your health, but more is not necessarily better.

Salt has contractive energy—so-called Yang energy—and high salt intake tightens your body, creates stiffness, and also causes sweet cravings to maintain balance (as Sugar has expansive, Yin energy).

For the sake of detox, I started jogging every Monday, one and a half months ago.

Sweat helps me not only do detox physically but also mentally. Any detox clears both your body and mind.

Actually, Mumbai is not a place for joggers. There’re a lot of holes, stray dogs, and even sleeping people on the rough streets. Furthermore, Mumbai is one of the most polluted cities in the world—you never feel like jogging while breathing the polluted air.

But luckily, there’s a jogger’s park near my new place, located away from the main streets. The park has a 500-meter, one-way track, which is relatively longer than those of other parks, and most importantly, joint-friendly—there’s a dirt track as well inside the park. The admission fee is only two rupees. It wasn’t a difficult decision to add jogging in my routine.

In the last fifteen years, though I never jogged regularly, since I was once a jogger, the first run, which was for only ten minutes, devastated me. It only gradually stretched to twenty minutes, and then today, I could run for thirty minutes comfortably while wearing my new Dri-Fit t-shirt!

I’m not sure how wearing a Dri-Fit t-shirt helps our body while doing exercises, but it seems that it has helped me run longer. I didn’t expect that! Have you ever actually felt the benefits of Dri-Fit t-shirts like me, rather than just feeling comfortable?

We Run Mum ~ Healing Readings with NalikolehuaAfter a good workout, I drink fresh coconut water. That is a treat for the joggers in India. Fresh coconut water is available everywhere.

Then, I checked, after a shower, the text printed on the back of the t-shirt—I laughed at many lines written in the smallest letters like these two:

We can run away from our problems.

We make the postal service look unreliable.

They sound very much Mumbaikar (people living in Mumbai)!  Do you want to join me for a run in Mumbai?

  1. Reblogged this on Healing Readings with Nalikolehua and commented:

Aloha! Recently, I feel more influenced by full moon than before, and the last Saturday was one of the very powerful full moons, as it was a full moon eclipse; I felt a bit heavy over the weekend.

When I feel heavy and don’t have any energy, reading books or watching movies on the television are my choices. But, there’s one thing that I never miss even while I’m feeling down: it’s jogging.

I wrote about my jogging around a year ago, and I’m proud of myself for this habit. Detox does always work for both body and mind and is one of full moon’s themes as well. What is your way of detox?
